Breckenridge, CO
Downtown Breckenridge — July 2026
My friends will tell you that Dallas is my “happy place.” While I love Dallas, and it will always feel like home, there is another place that captured my heart long before I fell in love with Dallas.
That place is Breckenridge, Colorado.
I’ve long loved the crisp winter air, the smell of pinion wood, the quaint little town with the mountains looming above it. The past few years, I’ve also discovered Breck in the summer, and it is just as spectacular. I love hiking in the forest. I love the patio bars. I love waking with the first glint of sunlight and walking downtown. I love the festivals. I even love how my body feels at 9600 feet!
Breckenridge has no shortage of cool restaurants and pubs. My favorite is Kenosha on Main Street, a staple for good food, drinks, and a nice outdoor patio, which is perfect for summer. For burgers (including vegetarian), there’s Ollie’s Pub & Grub. For finer dining, check out Hearthstone or Traverse at The Lodge at Breckenridge for spectacular views.

For more ethnic flavors, try Bangkok Happy Bowl Thai Bistro & Sushi Bar or Rita’s Agave Y Tacos. there’s I’ve also had a few meals at Downstairs at Eric’s. For gelato, there’s I Scream. Clint’s Bakery & Coffee House has decadent croissants, muffins, scones, and cupcakes (even ones that are gluten-free and vegan).
For a cool rooftop bar, or if you need new skis or a new mountain bike, RMU is the place to be.
There’s also no shortage of lodging in Breckenridge. I’ve stayed in several condos near the slopes, but for the past several years, I’ve stayed at a condo owned by a friend of a friend in Claimjumper. The condo has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a full kitchen, as well as a heated pool and hot tub onsite. It is steps away from a free shuttle stop and an 11 minute walk to Main Street and the Gondola. It’s a 10 minute walk to City Market, which is a fully stocked grocery store, and ski/snowboard rentals.
Breckenridge is just over 100 miles from Denver International Airport but can easily take 2-2 ½ hours to get there. There are several shuttle systems that pick up at the airport and drop passengers off in Breckenridge. If we don’t drive or rent a car, we use Summit Express.
Breckenridge is in Summit County. It is 23 miles to Keystone Resort, 10 miles to Frisco, 16 miles to Copper Mountain Resort, 35 miles to Vail Resort, 45 miles to Beaver Creek Resort, and 97 miles to Aspen.

I love this place so much that I have asked my family to scatter my ashes here when the time comes.
